Frost/Nixon

Saw it last night. It was good not great. Whatever dramatic power it has comes from parallels between what Nixon did and George W Bush's regime.

The behind-the-scenes of the interviews was fleshed out a great deal from the play. Certainly made the film more interesting. But still you could tell this was a theatre piece particularly in the last half hour.

Michael Sheen was good. The movie gave him more screen time and fleshed out his character. Langella was doing a number. I don't have a problem with that except he was over the top, the walk, the talk the jowles. way too much. From the supporting players only Kevin Bacon shines.

Smile

Need to find a way to bring back joy.

Favourite Movies and performances of 2008 so far

The Visitor - loved the quite intricate way people made connections in this movie. They were all wounded yet they found joy in each other's company. Richard Jenkins and Haaz Sleiman were affecting and had wonderful chemistry in their scenes together. Hiam Abbas was heartbreaking in her longing, reserved hope, plunge into love and finally quiet acquiescence.

Rachel Getting Married - recognized and empathized with the unimaginable loss the parents were feeling. These two characters were sparsely but tightly written. No exposition was needed. Bill Irwin and Debra Winger were so magnificent and heartbreaking.

Milk - where do I start with this one. Possibly the best of the year. Not only is this an important story that should be told in the current political climate. But it was actually told so well. Dustin Lance Black chose rightfully to show only the years when Harvey was politically active. His screenplay was nuanced and heartfelt balancing the public with the private while drawing full formed characters of Harvey, his friends, lovers and others in his orbit. All the actors were excellent. Sean Penn probably gave his most relaxed performance, finding what makes Harvey tick. James Franco was the anchor of the movie with his warmth and beauty. Josh Brolin made Dan White chilling and loathsome but 100% human.

I've Loved You So Long - just loved Kristin Scott Thomas and Elsa Zylbersyein. Two fantastic actresses at the top of their game, dueling it out in a fireworks acting fight. And the viewer is the winner.

Milk tonight

going to see "milk" tonight. right here in chelsea, across the street from my apt. at the clearview.
really looking forward to it. trying to keep off reading all the reviews.

I'm gonna wear that wig off your head!

The reunion show for "the real housewives of atlanta", last night, was explosive. Two fights of epic proportions : kim and nene & kim and lisa. Agree with lisa, kim is "a habitual liar" with "no talent". nene is straight up and "real", and of course right in everything she said. definately on team nene!!

Memo to the producers: get rid of deshawn, boring. she hardly said a word last night.

Memo to bravo: Andy Cohen should have his own talk show. he charming, affable and sexy. i'll watch.

Should I call or not?

Why is it so hard. I just want to call him all the time. Every little thing triggers how much I miss him. I look at my calendar and notice a coffee with a colleague and I remember how cute he looked in his black suit at her birthday party last year. I want to call!!!

Activities to do when I feel like calling :

1. Call anyone else (should keep my mother off the list as my whole day will be gone, come think of it move her to the top of the list)

2. Go back to work.

3. Put on my ipod

4. Can't think of anything, I need to call.
